Shockproof Training's heritage dates back to 2000, when Rex Beach, Dave Miller, and John Colbert founded a specialized training company based on the rigorous credit training methods Rex developed at Wells Fargo. Their mission was clear: to equip commercial credit teams at banks and credit unions with practical expertise in cash-flow-based credit analysis and underwriting.
What began as blended online and classroom learning soon grew into a comprehensive online learning and assessment platform. Over the past 26 years, Shockproof Training has empowered more than 125,000 credit professionals. We've helped hundreds of leading financial institutions nationwide strengthen their credit analysis, decision-making, and risk management capabilities.
In 2025, David Sturtz acquired the company and facilitated the retirement of Rex and John. Partnering with Dave Miller, he welcomed former Stanford and Xtime colleague Adam Galper and education specialist Cleo Strazdas, along with new and veteran banking experts Tom Halupnik, Patti Alexander, and Liz Pham. Together they spearhead a new, AI-focused venture that builds on the original company's deep expertise in commercial credit. Seeing the vast potential of AI to streamline processes and improve efficiency across all credit departments, the team is developing the first fully integrated, AI-powered platform for credit training, workflow, and analysis, launching in 2026.
